When
drawing or painting children and child-like scenes I
hope to reflect the same rapt attention for both subject
and setting as I do with my landscape paintings. I
immerse the children in their surroundings, most often
in nature - a reflection I suppose of my own pleasure
derived from spending a good deal of time outdoors.
In
these illustrative works I strive for a rich use of
vibrant and lively color and a good dose of
whimsical fun—creating worlds of delight, amusement
and wonder. It is this approach that ultimately led
me into the world of children's books.
